Learn to Ski Festival 2010

                                    This program is an annual event sponsored by Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports and Mt. Washington Resort on Vancouver Island.

                                    It is traditionally held in the second week in January. This program is offered to people with disabilities who would like to expand their horizons and learn

                                    an exhilarating sport which can become a lifelong family activity. Anyone over the age of 6 years and who has some ability to learn is welcome.

                                    We offer novice lessons in downhill, snowboard or cross country skiing as well as a ski improvement segment if you have some experience.

                                    We are able to accept a maximum of 35 students however " first time" applicants will be given priority in selection of participants.

This year's program will run from Sunday, January 3rd to Thursday, January 7th 2010.

                                VISAS will provide:

• 4 days of instruction by nationally certified instructors;
• All specialized and regular ski/boarding equipment including ski, boot, poles and helmets (mandatory)
• 4 day all mountain lift tickets
• Daily chartered transportation from downtown Courtenay to and from Mt. Washington;
• Lunches will be provided on the hill from Monday through Thursday;
• Evening banquet meals at the Sunday meet and greet and the Thursday windup and medal presentations

                                           Your Responsibilities and Costs:

• You must be a current member of Disabled Skiers Association of British Columbia (DSABC)
• You can obtain a membership on-line at http://www.disabledskiingbc.com (please print your confirmation page) The cost of the membership is $45 per year and is recognized at all ski resorts in BC.
• Your transportation to Courtenay. Greyhound and Island Coach as well as E&N Dayliner provide daily service to the valley
• Your accommodations. There are several hotels/motels in the valley. The
• Meals other than the ones we have indicated that we would provide
• NOTE: Parents, family and caregivers are welcome to attend all the events but are responsible for your own expenses including meals, resort facilities and lifts.
• Tickets for the two banquet meals can be purchased. Your cost will be the same as we pay for the students.
• Parental supervision is required during all non skiing activities, lunchtime etc.
• Due to equipment limitations, a weight restriction of 200 lbs or 90 kgs is in effect when using the Sitski or Biskis.
